Why I Stayed - Blog

Why I Stayed Movement

The Why I Stayed campaign began in 2014 as an inclusive movement of not just one story, but over 200,000 stories of survival, triumph, and healing.

In 2017, Jennie Willoughby wrote a blog post titled “Why I Stayed”, that later drew national attention because of its connection to the White House.

Her domestic violence story is important. And it is just as important to credit the survivors who courageously raised their voices using the exact same battle cry three years earlier.

History has a way of erasing the contributions of the most vulnerable among us, particularly women of color. But through grace, compassion, and intentional truth, all of our voices can be heard.
